Nature trails

There are several, surprising itineraries that can easily be reached from Castello della Pieve: the Protected Area of Monte San Bartolo between Pesaro and Gabicce, known for the splendid species of birds that live in its humid areas, the Caves of Frasassi, the Ministerial Reserve of Furlo where eagles nest, Monte Nerone, the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Natural Park and Foreste Casentinesi Park…

You can go for relaxing walks around the fields and woodlands of Castello della Pieve surrounded by nature: it is not uncommon to see deer, roe bucks, hares, foxes, pheasants, boar, hedgehogs, badgers, dormice, owlets, barn owls, owls, tawny owls, buzzards and many varieties of birds (for example grey herons and kingfishers) and colourful butterflies. Even wolves have come back to live on the Apennine ridge.

The hills that embrace the village are rich in paths and lead to the Apennine ridge and to the breath-taking Alpe della Luna along the G.E.A. route (Great Apennine Excursion).
It is possible to go on trips, not just on foot but also on mountain bikes and horse back, surrounded by amazing nature, encountering forest fruits and flowers that grow spontaneously: junipers, wild roses, cyclamens, daffodils, magnificent red lilies and Turk’s cap lilies...
At least 54 species of wild orchids flower in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, from spring to late autumn. The variety that reaches the most striking size is the rare and marvellous Himatolglossum A.H. Baumann, which is typical of the mountains of Mercatello sul Metauro.
You can venture on trails with varying levels of difficulty: from the municipal dirt roads to the old mule tracks that lead into the woods.

The information available from the Country House on the surrounding paths and routes is extremely useful.
You can arrange guided tours for sightings of wild animals, day and night.
The surrounding towns boast parks and gardens with games for children. A few kilometres away there are stables, tennis courts and swimming pools, as well as a covered pool.
The Metauro River is suitable for swimming in: it also gives children the chance to go for a swim safely and enjoy themselves. Again in the MetauroRiver (and also in the S. Antonio, Meta and Auro torrents) you can fish all year round, (A and B cat. waters). From the end of February and all spring you can catch Fario and Iridea trout. At other times of the year you can fish chub, barbel and carp. It is also possible to fish and take part in various competitions in the nearby lakes (Ca’ Bice- 550 metres above the sea and Lago del Sole- 1000 metres above the sea).
